for those of you who have a hook, do you throw a straight ball for spares or do you still use the hook ?

I use hook for everything BUT the 10 pin - then I use my Cartoon Network Johnny Bravo ball. "Uh-HUH!" Throw it straight across the lane at about 9mph. I'm a righty by the way.

I use a plastic ball for 6, 10 and 6-10 pins only. For the 3-6-10 I roll a reactive ball, but with a straight release. (it helps me to find the better line to get the spare) And ALWAYS a reactive ball when I have a 3-9 or 2-8 spare. -- "Per un'ora passata con un essere umano, ne ho bisogno altre 50 da passare con me stesso....che tanto umano non sono!" Anything with a sleeper gets a hook shot. If I am still looking for information on lane conditions, and the spare attempt will tell me what I need to know (i.e. something in the middle, not a corner pin) I will throw my strike ball at it. Otherwise, any single pin gets a straight ball. Most 2 pin combos also get the straight treatment. Simple spare do not need the power that a strike attempt requires. I think that I'm not the norm, but, except for the 4, 7, 4-7, or 2-7 (I'm a lefty), I still throw a hook. I've never become comfortable throwing a straight ball, so I don't do so unless absolutely necessary.
