Subject: just got back into bowling.....question about a new ball

hi...i havent bowled since I was in a league in '89. I have bowled off
an on since then but never was serious. Im working out of state and
bored to tears and decided to buy a ball to give me something to do to
have some fun on my time off (in addition to throwing darts). I stopped
by the local sporting goods store and looked over their selection and
picked up a 16lb. Ebonite Nitro Dark Blue Pearl Urethane ball with
somewhat of a sanded finish. it looked nice and only afterwards at
another store did i see that it was intended for bowlers looking to
upgrade to a ball to give them some control. I have a couple balls in
storage in another state....a 12lb and a 14lb but both are just smooth
finish basic intro balls i got at a store there. My question is....do
you think this will hinder my game much when i go to try it out this
weekend? I never learned the trick to getting a hook shot when i
bowled....i just shot straight. Perhaps I should pick up another one
with a smooth finish? maybe a lighter one?
any input would be appreciated
