Subject: handicap team dominates league
|
Hello all, There is one week left to bowl in my 3 person league. A team with averages of approximately 177, 149, and 128 has pretty much locked up first place. I'm trying to reconcile how this happened, their 128 bowler is pretty much a "chuck a plastic ball straight down the lane" type bowler, the 149 bowler is a "the pro shop guy gave me a few tips and suddenly I just know how to bowl" bowler with a $220 hook monster ball(he shot 634 against us the last time we bowled). The 177 bowler defies logic because he has horrible technique but just sprays the ball with a lot of speed and spin and knocks down pins. They use a blind score for their 128 bowler who is absent 3 out of 4 weeks a month because they don't want to give up their 100+ pins of handicap. The only thing I can't knock them for is that they always have a lot of fun when they bowl, heck, I would too if I was just kicking teams asses whose bowlers averaged 30 and 40+ pins above me. One mistake we made was to cave into pressure from a bowling center advisor that told us to raise the handicap from 80% of the difference between the two teams averages to 90% to bring in more people. Now the high average bowlers are mumbling that they won't come back if it stays at 90% and I agree. I know that handicap is supposed to level the playing field and make the competition fun and equitable for all but this is ridiculous. I can't believe this team is going to win. Any similiar stories out there of a team like this dominating a league? Chuck
