I started bowling again a few week's ago after a year and a half layoff. this was the first time I have showed any consistancy since returning to the game. 182, 177, 183, 188, 200. that is a good day for me. but I have still yet to bowl a clean game. I had two open frames in each of the five games. most were splits and I can live with that, but there were a few spares I should have picked up. once I figured out I was standing up during my delivery and stopped doing that, I have been doing alot better.

I was getting strikes, but when I missed, it was ugly.

Like Art said, spares are really where you keep yourself afloat. Doesn't matter if you're averaging 170 or 210, you don't make the spares, just watch the scores drop like a rock. It can be really helpful, if you're bored sometime and looking to practice something other than strike shots, to just throw a spare ball (if you carry one) at various pins. 10 pins, 7 pins, the 3 pin, whatever you feel like throwing at. You can either reset the rack after every shot, or just throw at whatever slop you leave behind from the first shot. It's weird to ignore your score that way, if you're not accustomed to practicing that way, but it's very effective. And improvement can be quick with that sort of repetition. Just a random thought off top of my head. :) -ed

This used to be a fairly busy board, back in the 90s. But, like most unmoderated boards/forums, it suffered from assorted spam and worse, so a lot of folks migrated away to other places. Someone here mentioned a fair number of former ASBers might be at ballreviews.com, for example. No need to apologize for replying to yourself, more content is a good thing. :) -ed On Dec 13, 2:22=A0pm, spr272...@netzero.net wrote: > On Dec 2, 6:47=A0pm, spr272...@netzero.net wrote: > > > I started bowling again a few week's ago after a year and a half > > layoff. this was the first time I have showed any consistancy since > > returning to the game. 182, 177, 183, 188, 200. that is a good day for > > me. but I have still yet to bowl a clean game. As you know, spares are the name of the game. I will spend some practice sessions working only on my spare shooting. I'll shoot at the 10 pin for 5 times, then the 6 pin, 3 pin, 2 pin, 4 pin and 7 pin. Or you could play low ball. Attempting to achieve the low score by shooting at the 10 pin and the the 7 pin. If you don't hit anything on the 1st shot, it counts as a strike, and if you miss on the 2nd shot it counts as a spare. If you know where you are supposed to stand and what your target is, it just takes practice. There is also several spare shooting system documents for spare shooting systems. My spare shooting system is similar to the Triax Spare Shooting system. As far as getting responses to your posts, have you checked out http://www.bowlspace.com? My site is http://artword.bowlspace.com. Additionally, I use http://www.bowlspot.com to record my scores. Art

I know, I am responding to my own post. preety lame but this sight is kinda dead. strange considering that bowling is the most partisapated sport in the US. maybe it is a usenet thing and not a bowling thing. anyway, my last four outings I have averaged 186, 183, 183, 181. last year I averaged around 170 and I quit bowling in august of 2007. and restarted in november of this year. so hopefully I can maintain my current average if not improve upon it. any reponse good or bad would be cool. peace.

Not too shabby there. Since you've Properly Recognized the value of picking up spares, that's where you should concentrate your "practice efforts" for awhile. :) Keep up the good work, etc.....
