I give this ball 5 stars! The Tropical Storm is about the best bowling ball I have ever used and the only thing close to it is the old Pacific Storm bowling ball which has almost the same modified 4 piece core as the Tropical now does. The price of the Tropical Storm is definiteley great. This ball has an incredable reaction on the lanes. The balls skids out to about 40 feet straight through the midlane and then in the last 20 feet it revs up as hard as a danger zone does in the midlane but in the backend instead and it simply demolishes the pins with the loudest hit you've ever heard! It's super forgiving and if you are anywhere near the head pin and pocket 8 out of 10 times you will strike, solid in the pocket 9 out of 10 times you will strike. It hardly leaves any splits, and it totally holds the line for picking up spares and there's simply no excuse for missing a simple spare with this ball. The ball does have a couple of weakness's (nothing's perfect) and one is that if you are off 2-3 boards on the strike hit it will not recover well or at all so you have to be close to or solid in the pocket. The other weakness is on lanes that are oiled lightly or break early the ball will have trouble holding the line on the strike hit and over-react and this is also true for bowlers with slower ball speeds even on normal lanes this ball will over-react on the strike hit. However that problem doesn't seem to exist for picking up spares with it and it still have great hold even on light oil or early break or for slower speed players. To remedy that problem you can do what I did and that is get wet/dry 1500 grit sandpaper (sold at walmart automotive dept) and wet sand the ball with it and then re-polish the ball either with your spinner and usual high polish you normally use if you have a spinner that is, but if you don't have one you can hand polish the ball using Storm's 3500 grit polish and that will work just as well. this will make the ball go longer and hold the line and still retain the great backend. (but make sure you use only 1500 grit wet paper not 1000 or 2000 as those grits won't work good, 1000 will roll out and 2000 will skid out). My advice is try to use the out of box surface if it'll work for you before you try any of the above. The Tropical Storm is not just a ball for beginners eblieve me it is a really great ball one of the best ever and I reccomend it mostly for stroker type bowling styles not for power players. This is the first ball to come along in years that makes the lanes seem really easy again and it brings us strokers to an even level and playing field with the power players who have enjoyed a huge advantage over us for the past 6 or 7 years but that advantage is now over finally thanks to the Tropical Storm! Thank you Storm Bowling for this ball! High Rollers and Eliminators here I come!!!!!!
