Subject: Resurfacing a ball

I bought a used Freak from a friend who had already used the Freak for
a couple hundred games. I've now put on the Freak, at least another
200 games. Last night, the guy I bought the ball from was bowling with
me and wanted to use it to see how it would react again. He tried to
throw it as if it were brand new out of the box and the Freak went
straight to the gutter. He complained to me and told me that I didn't
take care of the ball very well. I told him that its well used and
hasn't been resurfaced.
My question is this: if I resurface the ball for $30, will I get a
sharper hook with the ball?
I can get my Freak to hit the pins like a Mac Truck everytime, but I
have to let the ball go straight first and then let it hook. I want
the freak to go side to side like it used to
