I agree with the previous post that the proper grip is everything.
Assuming the grip is fine, try a little chapstick. Not much though,
only 2 stripes, one on each side of the thumb. Used sparingly it
helps me get my thumb out when it begins to swell up after a few games.
Remember, not on the top or bottom of the thumb, just the sides where
it makes contact with the hole.
