Hi All... I thought I'd ask this question here... In case one of you could help me... I have installed this PC Game called Ten Pin Alley... I used to have it on my Windows 95 machine and haven't played it since I've gotten my Windows XP PC.. Anyway, I dug up the installation CD and installed the game into my new PC and it's playing very fast, I can't control the speed of the ball etc. Have any of you experienced this? Thanks! Davey Boy

Rocket Bowl is good for a little entertainment on the odd occasion. Alternatively do a Google search for Ten Pin Championship Bowling Pro Beta and download that.

Is it a laptop (you said it is a PC, but just in case...)? If it is a laptop, then you installed the game while running on battery. Uninstall, disable speedstepping or other power management options having to do with your processor, plug it in, and re-install. If it is a desktop machine and happens to be a P4 hyperthreader, uninstall, reboot, disable hyperthreading, re-install, reboot, and bob's your uncle. If none of the above happens to be the case, then you are probably out of luck unless you get another Windows 95 machine running. Ten Pin Alley was published by ASC games which has been defunct since around 1990 or 1991.

There are programs to slow down your PC. Do a search on some Abandonware sites in their utilities sections for them.

I wanted to let y'all know that I found a utility called, CPUKiller (?) - something like that - it is doing the trick for me as far as slowing my PC down so the game can run... Maybe I'll check on the hyperthreading thing another poster recommended... Thanks again and Happy Bowling!

To answer your question about "Ten Pin Alley": It was written for windows 95/98/Fat 32. I have never gotten it to run on Windows XP/NTFS. There are certain programs, designed for Windows 95/98 that will not run AT ALL on windows XP. No many, but a few. As far as some really good bowling game software? I have been meaning to pick up Brunswick Pro Bowlers Tour Bowling again. I used to have it, but lost it during a move. That's a good game because the graphics are decent and it really is like being on the PBA Tour for the most part. My personal favorite is Alley 19. You can usually pick up this game on ebay for $1 to $5 plus shipping. I love Alley 19 because it's just like the Brunswick Alleys in the 60's. Neat nostalgia that no one has attempted to duplicate. The downside to this game is that it's basically just like going to the bowling alley and open bowling. No leagues or tournaments. But still, it's a really fun game. I wish that someone out there would write the "Ultimate Bowling" game software. I'd like to see a mix of history, PBA tour bowling(in different cities, different centers, different lane conditions and such) , different forms of bowling (i.e. duckpin, candlepin, Canadian 5 pin), tournaments, league bowling, plus all of the sights and sounds of bowling centers, past, present and future. Bowling machine operation close up (complete with having to switch lanes due to equipment failure), pin-boys, drilling balls, different makes and models of bowling lanes through history(complete with all different kinds of pinsetter models, masking units, ball returns and the ability to make your own styles of equipment), build and run your own bowling center (BOWLING ALLEY TYCOON?). But, as we know with most bowling related software items, it's usually only going to sell to a specific audience, so unless they are going to target it to, say kids, it's gotta be funny, weird, or changing the rules or look of the bowling game, to make it sell. I'm guessing that this is why nobody has put together the type of game that I suggested in the paragraph above. I'm sure that someone somewhere thought of it at one time or another and just couldn't get the backing to get it done. Most bowling game software products that have been released are boring and they are crap. The 2 or 3 that are really good games the just didn't sell well. All in my own opinion. I hope a programmer/game developer out there sees my suggestion for this massive bowling game software idea and gets the go ahead from a company like EA Games to produce it. But one can only hope.
