Subject: My first 800!!!!

Oh boy does it ever feel great!
I had just gotten done bowling in a tournament
and a gentleman told me to move over 5 boards.
Finished with 4 strikes.
Well, the tournament was over, I shot ok, not great.
Later that night on league I shot my normal line,
6 - 7 split. I am a lefty and bowl with my thumb out
of the ball and a plastic ebonite ball to boot. A 200 average.
How ironic is it I use my $200+ V2 to shoot 10 pins and a plastic ball
for my strikes.
Anyway, I move over 5 boards, boom 3 in a row.
10 pin/spare, 7 in a row. Hey somethings working!
1st game 258
Next game, open with 4 bagger, then a 1-3-6-7, oops
boy did i miss my mark wide. picked up 3. head pin wrapped around the
7. boom 7 strikes in a row. 2nd game 264.
3rd game, got lucky a few times! Bowling gods smiling down on me, cuz i
decided to let my kids come to league tonight to watch. 5th - 6th
frames i shot way high but got strikes. 10th frame. 1st ball pocket
strike. 2nd ball, left solid nine pin! ouch! 289 Humbled me a bit.
I was distraught, my son wanted to see me throw a 300. I have one
about 7 years ago. Pick up the spare. All of the sudden the crowd
that had gathered around me started cheering! I turned around... Holy
cow! I shot a 811!!! I was so preoccupied with the 300 i didn't
realize i had a shot at an 800.
31 strikes.. 2 opens (ouch!).. 2 spares.. At one point 17 in a row
between games 2 - 3.
Only the second 800 ever bowled on these lanes. And now the highest!
:)
Man, this feels as good as it did when i shot my 300!

A guy in my league shot 802 a few weeks ago, with an open. You trumped him.

Seein as you're a lefty and all, I'll forgive you for mixing up your balls
and forgetting to use all the proper fingers. :-) :-)
Nice shooting, and there's no better way than with the kids hanging around.

Congrats on the excellent bowling! I am absolutely happy for you!
I bowled a tournament today, too. I wish I could say my day was as good as
yours, but ... I personally just put up the lowest scores I've had in
weeks. I just couldn't seem to get it going today. In six games, I didn't
have a single pocket strike... had a few lucky pin falls and a double
handful of brooklyn strikes, but every time I found the pocket, something
stood up or slid. I picked up some difficult spares today, but I choked a
few times on singles... By the 6th game, I was turned around reaching for
my spare ball before I heard my first ball hit the pins. I'm really hoping
to find a way not to let today hurt my confidence.
I'll think of your good news on my next league night (thursday) and maybe I
can borrow a bit of your joy! <grin >
