Subject: Men Only Leagues...
|
I want to guage a few opinions from all you knowledgable people here... In our country, we have only 4 sanctioned bowling centres, and only 2 that run leagues. Of these leagues, only one is sanctioned, and it is at my home centre. This league is the "Night Owls Men's Doubles League", and (dispite the league councils attempt to "dumb" the league down by paying down further with less money, and increasing handicaps) it is still probably the best and most competitive. There are very few women bowlers in the country, and as such, are no women only leagues. My girlfriend, along with some other women, thought "why should they not be allowed to play the only sanctioned league inthe country", and took their request to open the league to women to the league secretary, and were subsiguently told to "fu*k off - i'd rather close the league down than let women in"... when it was mentioned to the president of the national federation, his responce was "I don't give a fu*k".... So this encouraged to put the complaint/request in writing, and send it to the council to be discussed at the next meeting. That meeting was last nigh, and while we hav enot heard officially, we expect that her plea was not granted... So, wht do you guys thnik of such a situation?? No women only leagues... no other sanctioned league... easy case of sexual discrimation? I would usually be the one on the other side of the arguement when it comes to, for example, women playing in the mens golf competitions, or in certain bowling competitions, as the women have their own events which men cant play in... however I feel this situation is different, as there is no alternative league. I should also point out that the league is handicapped, and the 3 women that I know of that what to join would all easily be in the to 3rd of the league in terms of average, so its definitly not an ability issue...
