Subject: Leather slide pad, doesn't slide much

starting in a summer league, I replaced my 25 year old shoes with
Brunswick Zone shoes... the funky copper/black for right handed
bowlers.
it's an adjustment to have the right shoe with non-sliding rubber, but
I also am having trouble getting any sliding action on the left shoe.
it was just fuzzy white leather, and now after 3 games it's slightly
dirty white leather, but still not much slide...
should I try talcum powder on it or something?
