Somehow I managed to cut my bowling hand in FOUR places on separate
occasions at work today.

Guess the gods want me to rest a while longer!

Dave is pretty much funny for the duration...

I never throw full speed until I'm warm either.

I bet they stop "being funny" when they see you pound the pins while
they can't "hit the broad side of a head pin, etc.", right? ;)

As long as it's good to go this weekend since that is the first time
I'll be able to practice with my work schedule..

I've actually been working my way up to a sadomasochist-style weekend.
Specifically, I am planning on my first competitive bowling in 13 years
to be an "out of the frying pan, into the gates of Hades" moment.

Since my last book average is back during the FIRST Clinton term, I am
going to get the competitive juices flowing by jumping into a scratch
tournament May 3rd and 4th at Bradley Bowl.

I likely do not have a snowball's chance in hell, but ya gotta jump back
in sometime!

Good luck. It'll be a re-learning experience. :)

Oh, I had an experience tonight to last me, oh... about 10-21 days.

Today's Tip: Even when you think you have stretched enough, do it some
MORE.

Even with stretching, when I threw my first ball tonight I felt a pop
and pain in the back of my left leg just below the Tensor Fascia. It's
definitely at least a Grade 1 strain, but I won't know until tomorrow
when I wake up whether it's any worse.

YOU CAN NEVER STRETCH ENOUGH!

You probably do not need me to ask you this, but you do not throw your
first shots at full speed do you? I simply can't. In fact, my first toss
is liable to be a 1 step or no step deal, just to get my arm moving. I
am not going full speed until at least 10 shots are off my arm. I agree
with the stretching routine. I always get funny looks and comments from
people for doing it, though.
Take care.

I have always been able to warm up fairly fast in the past. In this
case, I think I might have had a secondary cause: inadequate water
intake. I normally drink 100-150oz/day and have very little salt intake
without even trying. This particular day I drank much less and my
muscles were likely not used to having the usual liquid nourishment.

Having insufficient fluid intake can cause muscles to spasm, cramp and
do all other sort of nasty things.

And before anyone asks, I don't go to the can any more often than anyone
else!

Getting back to my strain, it is definitely a mild one at worst. The
day after, I had a fair amount of discomfort, but right now I barely
notice it unless I walk up or down stairs first thing in the morning. I
figure another week or so and I'll be able to test it out.
