Subject: Another Fingerholes q

I was bowling the other day and there were some disabled bowlers on an
adjacent lane. One of them used the launch ramp thingy and carried his ball
in both hands from the rack to the ramp each time it was his go.
What I noticed was that his ball had holes drilled although he was patently
unable to use them. Question - are any fingerholes strictly necessary in a
ball? Wouldn't this chappie have been better off using an undrilled ball,
something like the clear blue Lanehawk as it has no weight block
