Subject: Advice for a new ball?
|
Hello, I am thinking of getting a new ball since mine is 70s era hand me down from my dad. It is a 16# Columbia yellow dot and it is torn up pretty bad. I will probably keep it for a spare. Hopefully it can be restored to a decent condition. I haven't played much in the last 15 years but last week we played about 6 games, I got a 115,156,170,172 & 198. In high school I had a 175 average. I am planning on joining a league with a few friends so figure I need try to take my game up a level. I am 6'2", 220lbs and strong and athletic when I keep up on the excercise. The way I play now is to start on the second from the right/rear dot. When the ball gets down the lane about halfway it starts to hook and on a good shot I put the ball in between the 1 & 3 pins. I've been wanting a ball with a bit more action in it and was thinking a urethane ball. I think I want a ball with good length and moderate hook in the backend, but I dont really know. I've been reading up on characteristics of balls, but havent quite absorbed everything yet, like flare and drilling layouts. Would urethane be a good route to go or should I look for a reactive or particle ball? Any tips or suggestions would be great. Thanks, -- MattMika
