Subject: 15 lbs or 16lbs?
hi I had a 15lb ball throughout highschool. I used to be able to bowl as many
as 35 games a night.
i just can't do it anymore
after highschool i bought a new ball, a 16 lb figuring the heavier the ball ,
the more pin reaction.
My first league w/ the ball was my best ever..but my scores have dropped since.
Now my arm hurts after just a game or two.
and it can be sore for days.
Should i drop down to a 15?
is there a difference in striking power?
i was thinking of buying the new ebonite killer instinct
my spare ball is a 15 but it feels so light now! i'm afraid i won't be able to
control a 15 that much because my arm might sway too easily.

You can always try and play with only youre spare ball during a practise
session and see how your arm feels then. That should answer if its the
weight or something else thats giving you pain.

will constantly hooking a straight plastic ball screw up the track?
i have hte skull ball...yet it still hooks if crank it enough...it doesn't
really slide down the lane straight like i thought it would.

Your track might change a bit, but it wont really make that much of a
difference regardless.

Worst case scenario, you resurface it.

I have a plastic spare ball, but I've used it in competition for
strikes before.

thanks. Well, i could use a new ball anyway,
as far as lessons...i'm not sure who...i would think someone w/ a video camera
would be nice so i can watch my self in slo-mo
There's a former pro that owns the pro shop at my alley...but can he really
help, just by watching me? How much is too much for a lesson?
The last time i had lessons, the lady used to go down the lane and keep her
foot on the arrow as a target

I have a few suggestions. If you go into the pro shop to buy a ball
that would be a good time to ask the owner to watch you bowl. He can
probably watch your release and recommend a ball and drilling for you.

In addition, if you cannot get a camera, maybe you can stand in front of
a full-length mirror and practice your deliver. Looking into the mirror
you will be able to tell where your armswing is going. Also if the ball
is "in" near your ankle at the bottom of the swing.

Yes, just by watching the pro can tell you many things to work on. Video is
nice but not a requirement.
That lady you took lessons from before... did she walk with a limp?

Getting back to bowling? Still playing hockey?

hehe... its patricia (ladyjedi) if you remember me.

Actually, I've been told the difference between a 15 and 16 lb ball isn't
that much... while the difference between a 13 and 14 is huge.

From my own observations... my dad used to throw a 16 lb ball, but after his
second major heart attack, he dropped down to a 15 lb ball with out much
change in average or pin reaction, which hovered around 180-190 during the
last years he was still able to bowl.

cheers,

patricia

I mainly have 15lb equipment but I do a 16lb ball that I use often. I don't
really feel much of a difference. If your arm is hurting then you should
work on not using your elbow or shoulder to swing the ball. Let the ball
swing freely and when you stop using muscle to control your swing your pain
will go away. I can bowl 20 games and more and not ever feel any soreness
in my arm. Save the money on new equipment and find a pro to give you a
lesson. They should be able to help.

Use only one weight ball. I use 14 but that is me and I am 57 years old. Before
I switched down from 16 I found you cannot have a mixed bag and expect to do
well.

I used to have a mixed bag of 15 and 16 but found by trial and error the best
thing is stick with the same weight when changing balls.

You are young so you decide but stick with it! Changing weights even 1 pound
can really screw up your delivery timing if you change during the game.
